The author Jack London once wrote, “You can’t wait for inspiration, you have to go after it with a club.”
This echoes advice given to me many years ago by a tutor at Art College, ” Don’t sit around waiting for inspiration, go out and search for it.” The same tutor also said ” You don’t have to go to St. Ives to become an artist.”
It was with these pieces of advice in mind that I recently went in search of inspiration, not to St. Ives but to the lovely park just a five minute walk from my home, and armed, not with a club but a camera and sketchbook.
That one sunny morning in the park provided the starting point for four pieces of work – three already finished and another underway.
Being a secretive bunch at Beyond Stitch we generally keep new work under wraps until our next exhibition but perhaps I can share just a tiny detail from one of the Park pieces. If you are interested to can see the rest at our exhibition in Bury next Summer.
